Stuck in a Moment

I don't know if most of us are stuck in certain moments? I mean something happened and we never really moved away from that point although time and life has moved on.... At the risk of appearing boring I'll tell you about my moment: At the age of about nineteen my life had been nothing if not colourful. Disfunctional family, in local authority care, various abuses and a dismall lack of self esteem. I moved to a shared house in town, it had been arranged for me by a social worker. It was a fresh start but I had little self belief and felt unloveable. One night I remember looking at the night sky from my bedroom window and seeing loads of shooting stars, it seemed significant, like some kind of watershed. That night I had a dream in which a voice kept saying, "don't worry, Helen is coming." The next day, completely out of the blue a girl knocked on my door. She was my next door neighbour, I had never seen her before. She had forgotten her key and needed to climb over from the garden. Her name was Helen! Without going into the details we had a crazy love affair and both swore we were soul mates. It was like we had been waiting to meet each other. We said we were made for each other and would be together forever. Her early life had been very similar to mine, we understood each other instinctively. It was great until one day she just left without explanation. I could not get her to come back or tell me what had happened. Out of the blue, six months later she knocked on my door again. She was moving to London, she asked me to go with her but I just turned away, I thought she would just hurt me again. I never saw her after that. Life has moved on a lot since then, I have all the trappings of normal life these days, married, family, career and all the rest of it. Somehow though part of me has remained stuck in this moment, the loose ends and the lack of explanation just left me with unanswered questions. I would like to know how other people have got stuck in a moment.........I think it happens to a lot of people.

Getting Older

I am interested to know if I'm the only one who feels like this?
When I was a kid, I was distinctly aware of getting older. In those days the years and months counted for something. When I was fifteen, of course I knew I was different to a seven year old.
This process seemed to stop at around the age of twenty and the years became a blur. Is there really much difference between being twenty and thirty? Is there that much added maturity? Do you think that much differently? Apart from the physical things of course, obviously they do change.
Now I am forty for the most part I think just the same as I did twenty years ago. I find it hard to believe I am this age. It doesn't seem possible.
Somehow I expected to feel different like between seven and fifteen but I don't. Sure I am aware of the things that have happened over the years but they all melt into one.
What I am starting to worry about now is that I will feel the same when i get to sixty or eighty. Man! An eighty year old who can't accept that he is not still twenty..... now that is scarey!!

MTV sucks ass

I was watchin MTV one day. They think there all big and bad cause they don't censor or that they haven't sold out like those "other channels". BULLSHIT!
I happened to stumble upon an Eminem special a few weeks ago. They were playing all of his music videos. They played "Cleanin' Out My Closet" they bleeped the following words: shit, gun, killed, shot and im pretty sure they bleeped "bullets". Isn't that censorship?
If MTV is uncensored, then why did it bleep those words? If we all of us Americans have Free Speech, then why can't people swear on TV?* Isn't swearing a part of speech? What if swearing is the only way someone can express his/her hatred, anger or pain?
What do YOU think on the subject of censorshop?
I'd finish but its late and I have to wake up tomoro.
*note: I understand that not all channels, censor so heavily, so don't bother pointing it out.

Four Hundred and Counting...

The death of a US soldier in a roadside bombing in Iraq today marked the 400th American death in the country since the initial attacks in March. and that's not counting the dozen or so that died in the two helocopter crashes today. So we're up to 415-ish unnecessary deaths, and that's just Americans. That's not counting the Brits and Italians and other countries involved. And don't forget the Iraqis. Many thanks to the bloodlust of the Bush administration for crushing the families of those killed and wounded. And yet, most of the American public still supports the war. Because, after all, if we don't support the war, we're unpatriotic....what a load of shit. The government used (and is still using) fear as a weapon to keep the American people from resisting. Remember a few months ago when everyone was supposed to go out and buy plastic sheeting and duct tape because a biological or chemical attack was sure to happen soon? How about the terror alert colors? Hot shit Dave! They changed it to Orange! We're all doomed!
I know it's too late to do anything about it now, but we should never have attacked Iraq in the first place. Not because there would be civilian casualties, not because it would be a war over oil, but because saving the people of Iraq is NONE OF OUR GODDAMN BUSINESS. It shouldn't be this country's job to police the world. If our government really wanted to liberate Iraq from their tyrant of a leader, get the UN to be in charge of it. And "liberate" Israel too, that madman Sharon will be the end of them.

-State determines the minimum worth of a credit it will give to each student -Federal government matches state’s credit up to certain limit -Credit value for a student may be increased based on achievement -The student may use this credit at the school of their choice
-Teacher receives a rating every two years minimum based on education, experience, and ability to teach -Teachers receive a minimum pay based on their rating -Teachers work at school of choice
-College grants to promising students who pledge to be a teacher for three to five years after graduation
-Neither states nor the federal government will fund schools that accept excess amounts of tuition from students
This basic 9-point system is designed to encourage competition among schools to get talented teachers and set up effective programs. This way thay can receive enough funding to make a nice profit. Comments? Questions? Criticisms? Haters?

One time when I was tripping acid.....

....I went upstairs to my gay friend Al's apartment. Well, he and Jimmy and Don were all up there in a daisy chain. Nah, I'm just kidding. But they were putting together a weight bench. Well anyway, I was talking to Jimmy and he asked me a question. I don't really remember what it was, but I was tripping so hard that instead of answering him with, "Yeah man.", like I meant to, I instead said, "Yes ma'am."
Also, one time I was tripping I came up with, "What if life were like this all of the time and whenever you wanted to come down you had to eat an antacid? Then you'd be like, 'Whoa! I'm normal!! This is some killer shit!'"
Thank you for listening. I love you.

We must love (accept) one another to acheive true peace, therefore peace cannot exist without love. Furthermore, the "peace" all this military action is aiming for cannot be peace as it is devoid of love and acceptance.
Up for debate.

Garage Radio to Launch Online Reality Series
(view

|
DALLAS, TX – With the popularity of “reality” TV at an all-time high, Garage Radio raises the bar with a new concept in streaming entertainment by launching series called “From the Garage to the Radio,” which will follow the construction of a heavy Rock band from the audition and hire of four Dallas area musicians, through and beyond their first live gig. The series will be presented in half hour weekly shows and streamed from Garage Radio in both audio and video.
“From the Garage to the Radio” will air completely uncensored and feature personal interviews with the band members throughout the entire series, creating a “live” biography of a real band in the making. The series will also take viewers into the band’s practice sessions, the song-writing process, and business decisions after which the band hopes to cut a demo and market themselves to labels throughout the US and Europe.
Garage Radio is scheduled to begin auditions on Jan. 2 2004. Garage Radio Founder, Mike Foxworthy, will both produce the show and participate as the band’s drummer, “We’ve wanted to raise the bar for independent artists in order to achieve global acceptance. This is a new project that will not only bring attention to GR, but also to the artists that have made it so great. The show will also be a great opportunity to show off our capabilities.”
The auditions will be open all musicians, male and female, in the Dallas area possessing Heavy Metal and hard Rock influences both new and old. The band will consist of a drummer, singer/guitarist, lead guitarist and bass player. Musicians with good songwriting skills and working gig experience are considered a plus. Garage Radio will be judging musicians based on ability, creativity, image, attitude, and dedication. Garage Radio is also putting a call out to anyone with video production, camera handling experience and interested sponsors.
“Our goal is to show that a band can be successful under independent management using the most professional production methods possible,” stated John Foxworthy, Co-Founder of Garage Radio, “We believe that this’ll be a cool way to springboard a lot of careers.”
Inquiries about participating in “From the Garage to the Radio” on any level may be emailed to John Foxworthy at Roadrash@garageradio.com.

Gonna Be a Star?
(view
0 replies
-
add reply)
|
|
The big question that a lot of starting out people ask is how much time is too much time?
The answer to that is there is no such thing as too much time to spend on your music. The careers of many a star today started by their dedication to every possible moment they had in the studio or practice. It takes giving a lot of things up but the rewards are greater in the end then what you have to give up and the rewards are possible to attain.
Many people starting out lack a confidence in themselves or they somehow get to believe that the ones who have already made it are different then they are. They could not be so wrong as to feel that Beyonce, Alicia, Tim McGraw, Alan Jackson or any other star is different as far as being able to achieve their goals. The only difference is that they are there and you may not be yet, and the key word is " yet ". Another difference may well be in the time they dedicated to getting there that you may not be willing to.
So how can you tell if you have what it takes to make it and then should plunge head first into working extra hard to doing it? There are some thing to look for that are clear indications. One is do you have management that is dedicated to you. To the point that they are willing to go the extra mile for you in all things? If established professionals in this business believe in you then they may have a good reason to.
Another is can you see where you have grown in your skills and abilities in the past six months that you have been working at it, if you have been at it that long?
Lastly, is this what you want to do and want it not because of the money that is possible, but because it is important to you as a person to do it?
If your answer to those questions is " yes" then you have what you need to make it, you just may need to start devoting more time to it.
What are things you can do in order to help your career then?
1. Be an asset to yourself and your management. Simply put, work hard and do not be a pain in the rear to your key career person helping you, your manager. They know what needs to be done in most cases, so follow their lead and their request and do it. For some this may mean growing up and laying aside some childish ideas and notions, but you will win in the end.
2. Never leave a project undone. It is getting late and you have to work the next day so you need to leave before a song or a sessions is completed. No problem, be back there the very next day. Why? If you wait too long then the ideas you had the night before will chance being lost even if you have written them down. Better to work an idea while fresh.
3. Do not stop learning or trying to get better. Work on your delivery, style, range and control and do not sit back and be happy where you are as someone out there may get ahead of you. If you have management who are skilled at the above areas then pester them to teach you, do not make them have to beg you. Too many " Diva's" and would be Male Super Stars fall into that and kill their own chances of a career.
4. Work on other music related skills. Learn the instruments, the sound board and all other aspects of the business. Become valuable to your own career.
5. Do not put your social life ahead of your career. There will be plenty of time for parties, but you have to make the most of your time for your career if you are going to have one someday.
No one can promise that you will be a star, but failure to do any of the above will indeed limit your chances of it ever happening.

Unitarian Universalism and Crooked Politics
(view

In my religion of choice, Unitarian Universalism, we adhere to the tenet that we are to "affirm the inherent worth, and dignity of all humans". It is a beautiful way to live your life, but in this world, in this country, namely, in which goodness is exterminated and wickedness rewarded, how can I live up to that standard put forth by the forebears of our faith. I can I in good conscionce, look upon men like George W. Bush and the far more terrifying "brains behind the figurehead", the members of our unfortunate commander-in-chief's cabinet. Wicked men whom at one point sat on the executive boards of the companies now charged with rebuilding the country the U.S. had no right to devastate. Under the propaganda, the images of an evil dictator, and the facade of divine guidance, we bomb a country into submission, and then set about the task of rebuilding in our image. Only problem is, we don't know how to do it, so we ask for help from other nations who told us not to attack. And what do they do? Our leaders ask for their aid but assert that they must remain suboordinates under U.S. efforts. Then the Bush administration pours billions of dollars into the companies that bought him his election in the first place. Now if you ask me, that is crooked! That is utter depravity, and we have people like Ann Coulter telling me that since I am a liberal and do not follow my president blindly, that I am not patriotic. Her work is at the top of the sales charts. And then I have to ask Ann Coulter: Is not this country founded on the principle that I have the right to disagree with those in power. Is it unpatriotic to exercise the very right to voice this disapproval, a right that our forebears died, and took lives to grant us? And who says patriotism in America is a good thing? In the country of racism, sexism, gender oppression, class oppression, capitalism, greed, gluttony, and murder, how can I be proud? Even our very rights are being systematically terminated under the Patriot Act. In the movie, "Bowling for Columbine", Michael Moore portrays the struggles of a poor single mother, working seventy hours a week to support her child. In the end she is evicted, and her son goes on to shoot another student in my home state of Michigan. Her son is six years old. Still, men like George W. Bush, Donald Rumsfeld, and Dick Chenney sit on thrones that are borne up by such people as poor, single parents who just want to provide a life for their children. Such men are wicked in my eyes. You can now see how I struggle to "affirm their inherent worth and dignity as humans", or even see them as human for that matter. How can I forgive their transgressions against humanity? How can I forgive myself for not writing this letter sooner? I can only pray with all of what I am in this world, that what I write to you now, my one voice, can channel the anger in our hearts into a moral resistance to the wicked oppression of the men in power. We cannot let Bush achieve another presidency.

This world is changing so much, you blink and someone is a different trend! I don't understand it. Why can't we just ignore the television and magazines for one day and be ourselves. No, I think that would be too much of a hassle for some people. I think "minding your own business" would also be too much of a hassle for 90% of this world. Who gives anyone the right to tell me what to think, what to wear, and whom to be friends with = no one! and the next person that says "I'm here for you" I'm going to beat you and your mother up in my j's! -Roar-
never again will I wear words with name brands on them. I went to walmart today and I just happened to wear an Old Navy shirt for once in my lifetime. It was comfortable, so I wore it! A woman came up to me and said "like, omg, your shirt is SO cute" being quite of frightened I politely and quietly said "thank you" and turned my face to the ground. She stands there for a moment and asks "Where'd you get it?" ....... I walk away [never again]
-how to tell you are having a good day- when you have drank 3 iced cappuccinos and watched something about Metallica on the television every hour, all before 5:00pm! Yes!
-Things that piss me off for today- girls who change boyfriends more than I change underwear. socks with holes in them. rap music. people who make fun of me. chairs without a built in cooler and cookie maker. taco bell. breaking your toes. not being able to tie your shoes. screaming. crying. complaining. basketball. cell phones. glasses. and finally, bananas!
-bOwLiNg fOr CoLuMbiNe- go rent it, now!
