Peace and Love Philosophy
submit reply

We must love (accept) one another to acheive true peace, therefore peace cannot exist without love. Furthermore, the "peace" all this military action is aiming for cannot be peace as it is devoid of love and acceptance.

Up for debate.

Although the Peace and Love Philosophy idealy has a nice ring and sound to it its to far from the real world we live in. People hear war and naturally look to the aggressors. We can easily say that there is no way to bring peace with war. But i think the intentions of this war are not to bring utter harmony but to bring a more comfortable level of peace. If we want to talk about the lack of love and peace in this war we need to look at those in which were at war with. The world we now live in isnt the world it used to be, weve given to much freedom to the individual and taken away from the rights and freedoms of everyone. We need to look at the greater world, i personally think that it is time for someone to step in and help reduce the amount of needless death, unfortunatley these days saving lives in the end usually results in costing lives in the short run.

yeah, it is quite idealistic. The point is that it has to start somewhere; it's shooting ourselves in the foot if we say, "Well, the other side doesn't show any love, so we might as well not either." Why can't we be "the bigger man" (or country :-P) and be the first to show the love?

The other point is that the war never ends unless we make it end. Sure, we can achieve a temporary level of increased peace (defined by the absence of war) through war, but there will always be more. And we have seen this many times in the past, so I'd say an attempt at a different strategy is in order.

About giving too much freedom to the individual, I guess 'what's good for the goose is good for the gander' doesn't apply? What freedoms have been removed from everyone by giving more rights to the individual?

The world I live in
submit reply

Unfortunately for everyone around me the world i live in is filled with hate, anger, jealousy, and rage. Every where i turn i see or hear about death, destruction and misery. Yet what makes me keep going everyday is knowing that if i turn my head i can discover all the beauty, peace, and harmony that our country has to offer, and if i turn again i can pass the bad things and dwell on all the good things around me, It's really a beautiful world if you look at it right. I guess what im getting at is this war is for those that every way they turn see death and destruction, or are in constant fear for there lives. There are monsters in power all over the world unfortunately no one does nothing about it. I agree that with war there can be no peace, but with war we can bring new world leaders, that hopefully have a better outlook and goal for there fellow countrymen. I guess if you really think about it there are many things that affect us all in order to please the individual. I think the biggest problem with this war and people not understanding it is that weve grown up in a world where from birth someone has given us a chance to make it in a world filled with hope. There is no gaurantees that youll make it past birth in alot of other places. Our biggest fault is our inability to want to help anybody that stems further than the end of our drive ways. So how can anyone sit there and say they wanna help when the second someone does we jump all over them, maybe theres a better way, but we havent found it, so for me these goals of the americans will do for me.

Peace is a complicated thing. I am not a communist nor socialist, but I think peace starts with one feeling they are not above anyone else or kind, or rather merely accepting one another. Love will lead to peace, but so will indifference. People can be peaceful without having their culture deracinated.

So true; I think you're right on. To me, love and acceptance are almost synonymous, particularly in these posts.

o.k that's a fair point unfortunately I think being human makes it a little bit more complicated.

Now I agree and I'm all for love and peace but I don't know if I am into it enough to let some bloke blow my brains out while I'm busy loving and forgiving him.
Nor could I let him hurt my family and so on. I'm just not that perfect.

Idealists like me and you better watch out or we'll end up being dumped on while the world just carries on wallowing in it's own shit.

Hey wars are gonna happen, people will say it's for peace and all that. It's a crap place a lot of the time and crap things happen.

People believe in extreme things and do ludicrous things because of it but that's all part of humanity too.

I'm with you though mate. Stand up for the nice people but watch out for the nasty ones too!
